Why Women Face Painful Periods?

Pain during periods is a pretty common affair in most women. Though, the phenomena, which is also known as Dysmenorrhea is common, still it is advised that women should try and take the matter very seriously.

Painful periods starts below the abdomen and spreads further lower, and come to your back as well. Painful periods or Dysmenorrhea is mostly seen in women who are in their early teens. Even women in their 20’s suffer from intense Dysmenorrhea pain in their lower part of the body, which makes them unable to concentrate on their daily schedule.



It is hard to ascertain just one fine reason for the occurrence of painful periods in a woman. There may be a combination of reasons, which creates pain in a woman’s body during menses. Before you step any further and learn about the causes of painful periods, you should at first know how many types of Dysmenorrhea exists.

Types of Dysmenorrhea

You would come across two types of Dysmenorrhea, which affects women, primary Dysmenorrhea, and secondary Dysmenorrhea. Of the two, primary Dysmenorrhea is rather, more common.

Causes of painful periods when women face primary Dysmenorrhea

Primary Dysmenorrhea brings along a severe pain in your lower abdomen, the uterine in your body experiences a contraction because of severe chemical imbalance in your body. This chemical imbalance paves for painful periods in a woman’s body.

Causes of painful periods when women face secondary Dysmenorrhea

Secondary Dysmenorrhea is more complicated than the primary, and there are many causes, which leads women to such condition. Significantly, there is only one reason in biological terms. The cells, which look identical to endometrium, form a layer outside Uterus. These endometrial cells react to hormonal changes in a woman’s body, which results in severe pain during periods.

Still, there are few other reasons, which result in secondary Dysmenorrhea. Pelvic infection, uterine fibroids, and tumors inside uterine, could also result in painful periods.

Apart from polyps in women’s body, smoking cigars and cigarettes during menses period could cause painful periods. Even alcohol should be avoided during menses.


Common causes of painful periods

Miscarriage

When a woman encounters miscarriage, she is likely to develop pain during her periods, in the aftermath. A miscarriage often leads to pelvic infection, which again leads to painful periods.

Formation of ovarian cyst

An ovarian cyst, if formed on a woman’s ovarian surface, would certainly give pains during menses. The pain is dependent on how big a cyst is, and the number of cyst present in the surface of a woman’s ovary. If the cyst is large enough of the size of a grape fruit, then a woman would face increased pain during her menses.

Secondly, if a woman’s outer ovarian surface has more than one cyst, even then the woman would face painful periods.


Each woman may have her own reason for her painful periods, but what is important is to know the right cause of painful periods. Go and consult your gynecologist as soon as you experience your first painful period.

Though, painful periods are pretty common, yet knowing the exact reason would definitely help you to prepare yourself better for your next period.
